Metal Upgrading! Scrap Your Metal Recycling for More Cash At Wilson Metal Recycling! 404 Maury St. S, Wilson, NC, 27893, 252-243-3586

  Wilson metal RECYCLING
WANTS YOU TO MAKE MORE MONEY
WHEN YOU RECYCLE SCRAP METAL!

Wilson Metal Recycling buys scrap in all shapes and sizes- but, in truth, we pay different amounts depending on the condition of the metal.

Recycling Scrap Metal is a great way to make some fast cash, especially if you separate, sort, and strip your items before you scrap the metal.
Separating METAL WIRES from appliances, making different piles for different types of metals, and stripping the plastic coatings off of metals are some easy ways to ensure you’re getting the MOST MONEY FOR YOUR SCRAP METAL.
Wilson Metal Recycling is a North Carolina Scrap Yard that purchases metal and processes it to be resold as the raw materials for metal manufacturing companies. If you sell us items that are a combination of materials we will mostly purchase it as the grade called “shred.” If you have appliances that you would like to recycle, you will get more if you cut off the wires, remove the batteries, and break the item down into as many individual types of metal as possible. When you separate the materials inside your appliances, we can purchase the metals at their individual prices (which is always more than we pay for shred).
It’s also important to make sure your metals are separated into groups that can be easily moved. If you sell us a tangled pile of wires, we have to purchase all of the wire as shred- even if some of the wire is much more valuable. If we cannot separate types of metals, they are called “dirty” and they must be purchases at a lower rate.

Lastly, when possible (and safe), we recommend you strip any plastic coating off of your scrap metal and wires. The picture below shows some Aluminum Scrap Metal. To be exact, they areAluminum Fenders with a plastic coating on them. If we purchase the Aluminum Fenders in the state shown below, you would receive less money than if you took the couple of seconds to remove the plastic coating layer. Removing plastic coating is the easiest way to get MORE MONEY FOR YOUR SCRAP METAL!

Metal Commodities and Recycling Report
404 Maury St. S. Wilson, NC 27893

This is the Commodities and Recycling report, brought to you by BENLEE the industry leader in roll off trailers and open top scrap trailers, as well as Raleigh and Goldsboro Metal Recycling, the leaders in North Carolina for Scrap Metal, Cardboard, Electronics and Junk Cars.

Due to our travel schedule this is a special Friday Commodities report July 31th, 2015 instead of our normal Monday report.  My name is Greg Brown, President and CEO of the companies.

While last week was a very bad week for the recycling industry, this week was no better.

Steel Production
U.S. steel production in the U.S. came up a bit last week, which is part of the continued increase that has gone on since the April low of a few months ago, but steel production remains well below last year and below their historic highs.  This is due to the flood of finished goods steel imports and the lack of demand.

Oil Rig Count
On the positive side, the oil rig count that was released this afternoon has risen for 4 of the past 5 weeks.  Oil rigs use major amounts of steel.  Oil prices have come down a lot in recent weeks, so this increase could be short lived.

Steel Prices
And now for bad news, China remains weak, their stock market is in turmoil and since the U.S. economy is pretty good vs. Europe and China, the U.S. dollar is strong.  The strong dollar hurts commodity prices which are based dollars.  This chart shows steel prices near multi years lows as of today.

But things are getting worse.  We believe when steel trades next week, it will be at least $20/GT lower than it is today.

This lowering of scrap prices had many scrap yards lower their prices in the past week.  It will surely slow incoming flows and put pressure on scrap yards in the coming months.

Copper Prices
Copper is going nowhere fast and in fact continues going down slowly.  While somewhat stabilizing in recent days, copper prices hit a new 6 plus year low in the last week.

Copper Inventory
We see no reason for copper prices to increase any time soon, especially with copper inventories hitting a high for the year.

Aluminum Prices
Aluminum is also just about at a 6 plus year low in the past week.

Aluminum Levels
There is a positive though for Aluminum prices.  Inventory levels are at 6 year plus lows, so there could soon be some stabilization of aluminum prices.

There was not a lot of major industry news this week, other than how bad things are.   The major down turn in steel in the past few months and next month, combined with the new lows on Copper and Aluminum are going to put huge stress on scrap yards that are mostly retail.  Sadly more closings will follow.

On the economy, things remain OK, but not great.

Home Sales
One of the key issues that remain a major drag on the economy is housing.  New housing is less than half of what it was in 2005.  Also this week it was released that while cars sales are near record levels, they are lower than they could be due to the average age of a car on the road today is at new a high, which is 11.5 years.

On the positive side, oil has come down a lot in recent weeks and we are seeing some major drops in gas prices.  This well help consumers around the world and give them more money to spend on items that could help commodity prices.

For current prices, please call us at 919-828-5426 in Raleigh, 919-731-5600 in Goldsboro.

With that we hope all have a Safe and Profitable week.   Tune in next week for the Commodity and Recycling report.

This week may have been the worst week in the recycling industry since the crash of 2008.

Steel Production

U.S. steel production ticked up a bit again last week, which goes along with the continued slow increase in the U.S. economy. Steel production in the U.S. is clearly off its low of a few months ago, but it remains lower than last year due to the continued flood of imported finished steel goods into the U.S.
Oil Rig Count
The oil rig count which was falling for over six months has turned up a bit in recent weeks, which is good news for steel consumption due to the large amount of steel used in these rigs.

Now the bad news. Scrap steel continues to come in from Europe and DRI, which is a substitute for scrap metal, also continues to flow to steel mills, so scrap metal prices remain weak.  Importantly, they are now forecast to fall to yet a new multiyear low early next month.  Many scrap yards have lowered prices in recent days due to this.

Steel Price

This chart shows the current pricing of scrap steel, but when this is updated in about two weeks, as said, it will hit a new multi year low.

Copper Price

Copper is just a bad.  Copper hit a new 6+ year low today.  China’s lack of growth is a huge drag on copper prices.

Copper Stock Levels

Related, copper inventories are close to a new high for the year, so there is more than enough copper in the market to keep prices down.  There is no good news for copper prices.

Aluminum

Aluminum, which also hit new lows two weeks ago, hit new lows yet again in recent days.  China remains shipping Aluminum to the U.S. as their markets slow.

Gold also hit multi year lows this week.  Gold which was over $1,900 an ounce number years ago, hit a 5 year low this week and is under $1,100 today.  In summary key drivers for falling commodity prices are China’s slow down and since the U.S. economy is doing OK, the U.S. dollar remains strong, meaning commodities which are priced in dollars are going down.

As for industry news, Steel Dynamics which owns OmniSource released earnings this week that showed while OmniSource made money last quarter it was down significantly from last year.  Nucor Steel also released earnings, but they did not say how their recycling group did vs. last year.

On the positive side, unemployment claims in the U.S. literally hit a 40 year low last week, meaning job growth is good in the U.S., but many of the new jobs are low wage jobs, which is not good for commodities.

On a sad story, Loeb Lorman Metals in Wisconsin has filed for receivership and is up for sale, after about 100 years in business.  With market conditions deteriorating weekly, we know there will be more of this to come.

For current prices, please call us at 919-828-5426 in Raleigh, 919-731-5600 in Goldsboro.

With that we hope all have a Safe and Profitable week.   Tune in next week for the Commodity and Recycling report.

There was little good news this week in commodities and recycling.

Steel Production

U.S. steel production ticked up a bit in the last week, which follows with the slow continued increase in the U.S. economy.  As has been reported here, parts of the economy such as home sales and car sales are at 9 to 10 year highs.

Oil Rig Count

The oil rig count that had stabilized and was up for two weeks came down a bit last week.  This follows with oil prices coming down to new multi month lows and means less steel is being used in drilling.

Heavy Melt Price

As for scrap steel prices, as we all know they came down this month and some say they could come down again in August.  With the U.S. dollar strong, scrap metal continues to come in to the U.S. from other parts of the world.  It also means that major importers of scrap steel like China are buying more from Europe and less from the U.S.

Copper Prices

Copper prices which hit new 6+ year lows two weeks ago and then rose a bit, came steadily down last week.

Copper Stocks Level

In another bad sign, copper inventories have been rising for weeks and are near multi month highs.  Bloomberg reported last week that some think copper could drop another 13% this year.  There is no good news for copper.

Aluminum

Aluminum, which also hit new lows two weeks ago, stayed pretty flat at a level just above those new recent lows.

As for general news, the U.S. stock market hit new highs last week, and oil hit new multi month lows.  This could help spending and help create demand, which could mean that the bottom for commodities could be close.

Permits for new home building rose to the highest level in June since July 2007 and the home building sentiment index, hit a new 10 year high, both very positive signs for good things to come in the economy, but not for recycling, unless China and Europe start growing at a healthy rate.

Lastly for those members if ISRI-the scrap recycling organization that have joined the Circle of Safety, you should review joining it to share and improve your safety operational issues with others.
